We offer internship opportunities for school leavers and undergraduates on a regular basis. In addition, we also have a structured internship programme which is conducted annually for school leavers who are awaiting A/L results, in order to give them exposure in the banking industry. Candidates for this programme should have passed GCE O/L with Credit passes in Mathematics and English and sat for GCE A/L in the relevant year and awaiting results. Intern for the opportunity to acquire hands on skilling as well as class room based training opportunities. Internships are offered on paid and unpaid basis depending on Bank requirements.

If you are interested in applying for an existing vacancy, you can download the standard DFCC application from our website and forward the duly filled application via e-mail to the relevant e-mail address mentioned in the vacancy advertisement, or by post to the HR Department, DFCC Bank PLC, No. 75/3, Galle Road, Colombo 3.
If you are shortlisted from initial screening you will go through a selection process which include an ability test, first round of interviews with the senior management and an assessment centre which comprises of presentations, group discussions etc. Candidates who get shortlisted from this process will face the final interview with CEO and DCEO of the Bank. Those who are successful will be recruited to the Bank as Management Trainees. The standard selection process may be changed as per the discretion of the management.
At the Banking Trainee entry level exam only successful candidates will be called for interviews. This is also mentioned before the exam commences. Even at the Executive Trainee and Management Trainee exams, successful candidates are called to attend interviews. Those who have attended interviews (for any position at the Bank) will be kept updated via mail at least within a month from the date of the attendance of the interview.
Duration of the recruitment process will vary depending on the position. However, on average it would take approximately 3-4 weeks for junior levels and 6 - 8 weeks for senior levels. The recruitment process for Management Trainees will take a longer period due to the large number of applicants and structured selection process that takes place.
You may go through the DFCC website, facebook page and obtain information about the Bank and our products/services prior to attending the interviews. For entry level positions, competencies such as effective communication, team working, leadership roles held in the school, extra curricular activities of the candidate, etc. would be given due recognition. For senior levels you may enhance your general knowledge/technical knowledge in relation to the job that you have applied for and you may be requested to present/ articulate your strategy as to how you would apply your knowledge and experience in enriching the job role that you would be interviewed for at DFCC Bank.

If you are a fresh school leaver meeting the minimum criteria to join our team, you may choose a career in branch banking operations as a teller or alternatively in a support function in a department based on available vacancies. Eg. Accounting, Marketing, HR, etc.
If you meet our criteria for Executive Trainee or Management Trainee positions you may join our executive grade and choose to have a career mainly in credit or back office / support role in a department based on vacancies Eg. Treasury, Finance etc.
Further if you have joined the Bank at a junior grade and completed a degree or a full professional qualification acceptable to the bank whilst being in employment, there is a structured career advancement program for you, where such staff could be fast tracked to a higher position / executive grade subject to selection criteria.
Experienced individuals would be recruited based on skills and their experience.
To make a career switch after joining the bank, you need to complete a minimum period in one particular job role and you will be considered for a transfer along with the annual transfers. Further, all job opportunities are advertised internally and eligible staff could apply for same if they meet the minimum criteria as stipulated in the adverts. You will need to face a formal interview with a senior panel. In the event you get selected for the vacancy, a career change can be considered.
Sales staff would be paid a basic salary, travelling expenses would be reimbursement up to specified limits, mobile phone bills will be reimbursed and a very attractive incentive scheme is available for sales staff in addition to performance based annual increments and bonuses. You would also be provided with structured training programs and good performers could expect a fast career tracked progression.
Apart from a competitive salary, Branch Managers would be entitled to a grade specific fixed travelling allowance, mobile phone allowances, Branch Manager allowance, accommodation allowance (for outstation postings) and host of other benefits available for permanent staff of the bank.

The Bank’s standard working hours is from 8.30 am to 5.00 pm. However, branch network staff have to work on a roster basis from 9.00 am to 12 noon. Extended banking hours are also present at some of our branches and staff who work in these branches are expected to work until 7 pm on working days on a pre agreed roster basis.
We also have rostered flexi hours based on job requirements.
During your first year of working you will be eligible for 0.5 day casual leave and 1 day medical leave for every month that you work. The subsequent year you would have 14 days of medical leave, 7 days of casual leave and a prorated amount of vacation leave based on when you joined the Bank. In subsequent years you would have 21 days of vacation leave, 14 medical days and 7 casual days.
All Bank, Public Holidays and Mercantile Holidays are also holidays for the staff at the Bank.
If you join the bank as a school leaver or partly qualified professionally, you would be eligible for promotion to the higher grade every 3 years based on meeting/ exceeding expected performance standards. Fast tracking opportunities are also available to high performers meeting the required criteria of the Bank.
