On October 04 2023, Tharushi Karunarathne delivered a remarkable performance at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, by securing a Gold Medal in the Women’s 800m sprint. This significant victory not only marked the first Gold Medal in athletics at the Asian Games since 2002 but also represented the first-ever medal in the Women’s 800m sprint category. It is a moment of historical significance for Sri Lanka and a source of immense national pride.

In recognition of her achievement, DFCC Aloka proudly presented a savings account during a felicitation event hosted by her alma mater, A. Rathnayake Central College – Walala, on October 12, 2023, at the Kandy City Centre.
