Purchase of Government Securities through the Secondary Market- Treasury Bills and Treasury Bonds
Treasury Bills are a short term investment issued through primary auctions conducted by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) on behalf of the Government of Sri Lanka. They are considered secure investments as the local investor assumes zero default risk. CBSL currently issues Treasury -bills with original maturities of 91, 182 and 364 days.

Treasury Bonds are issued by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka on behalf of the Government through primary auctions. These Bonds are considered to be medium and long term instruments with zero default risk for local investors. (Interest payments: Semi-Annual basis at the coupon rate)

Primary Auctions
To participate in the primary auction, clients must bid a minimum face value of Rupees 5 Mn (Rs. 5,000,000.00 /-) and multiples of Rupees 1 Mn (Rs. 1,000,000.00 /-) thereafter. The signed request letter must be submitted to the branch by 3 PM the evening prior to the auction. The following are the bank charges applicable:
- Rs. 5,000.00 if the bid is successful
- Rs. 1,000.00 if the bid is unsuccessful

- CDS account opening format– For New Clients / One-time document
- BR Format Only Applicable for New Corporate Clients / One-time document
- Customer Bid Letter – For every transaction
